The 1938 Red Ribbon Handwritten Label from The Macallan is an exceptionally rare and historic single malt, representing one of the earliest eras of the distillery’s bottlings. These bottles are instantly recognisable by their minimalist, cream labels, hand-inscribed with vintage and bottling details, and finished with the distinctive red ribbon motif that has become synonymous with Macallan’s most prized early releases.
Distilled in 1938 and matured for decades in carefully selected oak casks, this whisky reflects the traditional, richly sherried style that defined Macallan’s reputation. Extended ageing has imparted deep, complex flavours, often characterised by notes of dried fruits, polished oak, warming spice, and subtle hints of cocoa and citrus.
The handwritten label itself is a key part of its appeal, offering a tangible connection to a time when each bottle was individually documented, long before modern labelling and mass production. As a result, the 1938 Red Ribbon is not only a remarkable whisky but also a piece of Scotch whisky heritage, highly sought after by collectors and connoisseurs alike for its rarity, provenance, and historical significance.
