Description

The Private Collection 1948 from Glen Grant Distillery was filled into a first-fill Sherry cask on 10 April 1948, the year of the new monarch’s birth. Just 281 bottles of this exceptionally rare whisky were released, having been bottled on 15 December, exactly 74 years after His Majesty’s christening.

After more than 70 years of maturation, the whisky retained an impressive cask strength of 50.4%. It was a lively, aromatic single malt, rich with festive spice, mulled berries, and notes of raisin and citrus zest.

To mark the release, Gordon & MacPhail made a donation of £25,000 to The Prince’s Foundation.

The charity runs a wide-ranging programme of education and training for people of all ages and backgrounds, including traditional arts and heritage craft skills, horticulture, wellbeing and hospitality, as well as regeneration projects that support communities.

Prior to any bid being placed on a lot, close up visual inspection is to be carried out. If you are unsure in any way about the condition of the said lot, click “ask a question” above. More in-depth descriptions and additional photos can be taken upon request. Otherwise, lots are sold as seen in the pictures. The bidder understands that once you have bid, you are stating you understand this and that the checks stated above have been carried out and you are happy with the lot's condition.

TGWA may try to highlight conditions of interest of lots being sold in the auction. The majority of the items being sold are of second-hand nature and TGWA cannot be held responsible for any conditions that may not have been specified when listing the lots on the site. Thus, the bidder fully understands, prior to confirming a bid they are happy with the condition of the lot, whether it has conditions noted or otherwise.

Should there be a discrepancy between the photo and the lot title/description, the photograph holds the precedent. No claim can be lodged against a misdescribed item as all lots are sold as seen.

Due to the various ages of bottles and their seals, the condition of liquid is at the buyer's discretion and no claim can be lodged against failure/leakage in transit. Loss and breakage cover is available at 3% of the hammer price as standard. If the lot is not insured, no claim can be lodged against the courier or The Grand Whisky Auction for breakage or loss in transit.
