Description

This mahogany and glass case was specifically designed to house the world’s most expensive bottle of whisky: The Macallan 1926 60 Year Old. Its authenticity has been verified by Macallan.

Only 40 bottles of this legendary whisky were ever produced, drawn from cask #263 in 1986 after 60 years of maturation.

The 40 bottles were split as follows:

  • 12 with labels by Sir Peter Blake
  • 12 with labels by Valerio Adami
  • 14 with classic Fine & Rare Series labels
  • 2 released without any label

Only the Blake and Adami editions came with cases like this one. Each had a plaque marked “1926”, silver for Peter Blake, bronze for Valerio Adami. This case features a bronze plaque, confirming it was made for a Valerio Adami bottle.

Of the 12 Adami bottles:

  • One was destroyed in the 2011 Japan earthquake
  • One has been consumed
  • One, with a case, is going to auction at Sotheby’s

That leaves a maximum of nine Adami bottles, and only one confirmed to still have its original case. Any owner of a Valerio Adami bottle without a case would see this as a rare and valuable opportunity, whether to elevate the bottle’s worth or to display it as it was originally intended.

Don’t miss the chance to own this unique and historic presentation case.

Prior to any bid being placed on a lot, close up visual inspection is to be carried out. If you are unsure in any way about the condition of the said lot, click “ask a question” above. More in-depth descriptions and additional photos can be taken upon request. Otherwise, lots are sold as seen in the pictures. The bidder understands that once you have bid, you are stating you understand this and that the checks stated above have been carried out and you are happy with the lot's condition.

TGWA may try to highlight conditions of interest of lots being sold in the auction. The majority of the items being sold are of second-hand nature and TGWA cannot be held responsible for any conditions that may not have been specified when listing the lots on the site. Thus, the bidder fully understands, prior to confirming a bid they are happy with the condition of the lot, whether it has conditions noted or otherwise.

Should there be a discrepancy between the photo and the lot title/description, the photograph holds the precedent. No claim can be lodged against a misdescribed item as all lots are sold as seen.

Due to the various ages of bottles and their seals, the condition of liquid is at the buyer's discretion and no claim can be lodged against failure/leakage in transit. Loss and breakage cover is available at 3% of the hammer price as standard. If the lot is not insured, no claim can be lodged against the courier or The Grand Whisky Auction for breakage or loss in transit.

Graphs are for information purposes only. TGWA accepts no responsibility for any errors or omissions in the data plotted. All bidders should also carry out their own research prior to any bids being placed.
