Description

In 2012, former Vodafone McLaren Mercedes (VMM) Driver and World Champion Jenson Button visited the Johnnie Walker House in Shanghai to embark on a special journey to create the John Walker & Sons Signature Blend Vodafone McLaren Mercedes Edition through Johnnie Walker’s finest whiskies.

This extraordinary whisky is the result of the John Walker & Sons Signature Blend program at the brand’s House in Shanghai. Jenson Button, gave the recipe by his own taste for the liquor in Shanghai. His “notes” were later taken to Scotland, where the final product was created by Johnnie Walker’s Master Blender, Jim Beveridge. Beveridge hand-picked malt and grain whiskies of exquisite quality from the four main distilling regions of Scotland and aged in a combination of bourbon, port and sherry casks. Some have been aged for more than two decades, and two of the malts for more than thirty years. Some are exceptionally rare, coming from distilleries that have since closed.

This limited edition of the John Walker & Sons Signature Blend, Vodafone McLaren Mercedes Edition, has been designed in just 25 units. They retailed exclusively at the brand’s House in Shanghai and were purchasable via invitation only.

This limited edition is presented in a carbon fibre display case containing a crystal John Walker and Sons decanter stopper and an actual wheel nut used on the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes cars during the 2011 Hungarian Grand Prix, which was won by Jenson Button on his 200th start – giving you ownership of a unique piece of motor-racing history. Only 20 units were made available for private sale, which makes this a supremely rare edition.

Prior to any bid being placed on a lot, close up visual inspection is to be carried out. If you are unsure in any way about the condition of the said lot, click “ask a question” above. More in-depth descriptions and additional photos can be taken upon request. Otherwise, lots are sold as seen in the pictures. The bidder understands that once you have bid, you are stating you understand this and that the checks stated above have been carried out and you are happy with the lot's condition.

TGWA may try to highlight conditions of interest of lots being sold in the auction. The majority of the items being sold are of second-hand nature and TGWA cannot be held responsible for any conditions that may not have been specified when listing the lots on the site. Thus, the bidder fully understands, prior to confirming a bid they are happy with the condition of the lot, whether it has conditions noted or otherwise.

Should there be a discrepancy between the photo and the lot title/description, the photograph holds the precedent. No claim can be lodged against a misdescribed item as all lots are sold as seen.

Due to the various ages of bottles and their seals, the condition of liquid is at the buyer's discretion and no claim can be lodged against failure/leakage in transit. Loss and breakage cover is available at 3% of the hammer price as standard. If the lot is not insured, no claim can be lodged against the courier or The Grand Whisky Auction for breakage or loss in transit.
