Region
Highlands Whisky for auction
Description

The most northerly whisky distillery on the Scottish mainland is situated in Thurso in the county of Caithness and Scotland’s Highlands whisky region. Wolfburn named after the watercourse that supplies the distillery was originally owned and operated by William Smith in 1821 before operation ceased in 1837. Laying dormant until 2012 when a private consortium called Aurora Brewing formed to rebuild Wolfburn 350 meters from the original distillery ruins. Whisky production resumed in 2013 after 157 years.

The Kylver series follows the Viking runic alphabet engraved on a large stone excavated in Gotland (Sweden) in 1903.

Fehu

This is the first instalment in the Wolfburn Distillery Kylver collectors’ series. The first Kylver release was matured in bourbon barrels. It was released in August 2016 at 46%. This is one of 1200 bottles.

Ur

This is the second instalment in the Wolfburn Distillery Kylver series. This single malt whisky was drawn from a combination of bourbon barrels and second-fill ex-Oloroso Sherry. Released in May 2017 at 50% ABV. This is one of 1450 bottles.

Thurisaz

This series "Kylver" is named after an ancient burial stone. This third release is possibly the most anticipated yet and means thorn or grant. It has been matured in a combination of ex-bourbon barrels and hogsheads before being bottled in 2017. Label: A commissioned Thurisaz in Repose by Ian Giles. Bottled at 50% ABV.

Ansuz

Wolfburns 4th release of the Kylver series. Each bottle has a letter from the runic alpabet, which was on the Kylver stones. This peated bottling has the symbol “Ansuz”, which translates as “god” or “gods”. The whisky was matured for around four years in a combination of first-fill bourbon barrels and second-fill quarter casks. Bottled at 50% ABV.

Raidho

Raidho is the 5th release in the Kylver series released in 2019. The spirit was double distilled and then laid down to mature for an undisclosed length of time before being bottled free from artificial colouring. Bottled at 50% ABV.

Kaunaz

This is the 2020 release from the sought after Wolfburn Kylver range which is the sixth in the series. Kaunaz was drawn from 2014 vintage first-fill bourbon barrels and bottled at 50% ABV.

Gebo

Distilled in the far North of Scotland at the Wolfburn distillery, this single malt was crafted using some of the distillery's oldest peated spirit which was laid down in 2014. Held in Oloroso hogsheads for over 6 years, this bottling is the 7th part of the distilleries Kylver Series. Only 990 bottles were released and bottled at 50% ABV.

Wunjo

Released in April 2020, the Wunjo bottling from Wolfburn is the 8th release of their Kylver Series. Each edition of the Kylver being unique, this whisky was held in an Oloroso Sherry cask #745 which has turned Wolfburn's signature whisky into a gloriously deep and rich one. Bottled at 52.8% ABV.

Hagalaz

This is the 9th instalment in the Wolfburn Distillery Kylver series. This single malt has been matured in 1st fill Dark Rum Caribbean and Bourbon Barrels. Bottled at a strength of 52.8% ABV.
