Description

Founded in 1941 by Isouji Akuto, who was a descendant of a long line of sake producers. Hanyu distillery is located north-west of Tokyo in Saitama prefecture and is surrounded by vast rice fields which is supplied with river Tone water.

Production of single malt whisky started 1980 with the purchase of two Scottish pot stills however, production did not last long as the year 2000 saw the production of whisky being ceased. The distillery was removed forever in in 2004 and remaining stocks have been relocated by Ichiro Akuto this is the grandson of the founder of Hanyu.

52 cards in a deck right? Wrong, the only real deck of cards that really matters is Hanyu’s legendary collection where there are 58! Why the difference you may ask….in 2005, 4 casks were only ever released in a very small quantity. This combined with their great success, a second bottling was released by Ichiro, which means the second release is actually aged for one year more! These cards are -

  • King of Diamonds
  • Ace of Spades
  • Queen of Hearts
  • Jack of Clubs

Only 120 of each card has been produced and never to be repeated…

The colour Joker, completes this rare series of 54 bottles. This liquid consists of 14 casks that range in vintages from 1985, 1986, 1988, 1990, 1991 and 2000 which resulted in only 3,690 bottles being produced. Casks used in the production of the bottle include sherry - Butt, Puncheon, Hoggy, Cognac, Chibidaru, Madeira hogshead and bourbon.
